THE ONE TRAINING SESSION YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO MISS!!
STRESS + REST = GROWTH
The body repairs, grows and adapts in the time between training sessions when we rest, and continuous training will end up slowing you down, it will make you more susceptible to injuries, it will leave you feeling drained, low in mood, and it is unhealthy. .
So why do we find it hard to take a rest day? I really struggled with rest days when I was younger. I couldn’t switch off from training – partly due to lack of knowledge and not appreciating how important rest and recovery were, and partly due to my unhealthy obsession with training. I know I would have been faster had I respected my body more.
Over the last few years I have noticed my body takes significantly longer to recover. I can’t get away with abusing my body like I used to – if I miss a rest day my body soon lets me know – the quality of my sessions drop, I start picking up niggles, my mood drops. The rest day is when the magic happens – and it takes on so much greater importance the older we get..
A walk with the girl (Holly – pictured below!) listening to podcasts is something I now really look forward to. It gives my mind and body some much needed downtime, to keep me hungry and ready for more.
Missing those rest days may be the simple reason that you aren’t achieving those results you’re looking for.
